I've gotten a few tissue tees in the past months, and I've noticed a trend with either my washer or my dryer DESTROYING them! It's always small holes near the bottom of the tee - whether it be the front, side, or bottom. I was quite upset to see one of my newer JCrew ruffle tees be the last victim of this strange occurrence. I had worn it ONE TIME.
I do have a front load washer - has anyone else noticed this? I thought that I read that front loaders were supposed to be more gentle on clothes. Is there anything to prevent this, short of taking the tees to the dry cleaners? Or am I destined to be the girl that wears holey tissue tees?

In my opinion, you can't dry them. All of my tissue tees hang dry in the laundry room or on the shower rod in the bathroom.
I doubt it's the washer ruining them - I put my money on the dryer.
I actually don't put anything in the dryer anymore. I have the j.crew tissue tee (long sleeve) with the rosettes around the neck. i actually dry clean those because they're so delicate. my ring snagged one of them one day and a tiny little hole was made. i think you just have to be really careful and put the tees on a drying rack.
My dryer ruined a couple tissue tees that I had only worn once. I wash them in my front-loader and they are fine, I just hang or lay mine to dry.
I've found tiny holes near the bottom of some of my regular tees too. No idea how that's happening!! I love the soft feeling of tees from the dryer....but maybe that won't be possible. I do love the tissue tees!
I have had the same problem for awhile too, and not just with J. Crew tees. My holes are all around the bottom front of the tee. I have determined that it could be due to the shirt rubbing against the button/zipper of my jeans. Some culprits I have found are my laptop (when used on my lap) and the bottom edge of the granite counter in the kitchen. It has been a real mystery for a long time for me. I now have a stack of really expensive rags because you just can't repair them.
I put mine in the bra bags ... do you know what I'm talking about? And I use the delicate cycle and put them on air fluff only in the dryer. Seems to work.
Good luck!
I have to wash my jcrew tees separate from my other laundry on a handwash load. It's a bummer, but the shirts stay better.
I just googled this and found your blog after yet another brilliant t-shirt (marc jacobs) showed up w/ holes after just one or two wears. I think it is something about belts and rubbing at the waist during wear. But how to prevent????
